Voters Deserve to Know Local Candidates’ Party

Your thoughts on April 1 local election decisions

Local elections are supposed to be nonpartisan. But in these times, I believe we need our local candidates to declare, fully and without shame, their party affiliation. We as voters have a right to know if someone we vote for is a Republican or a Democrat.

Check out the websites: Kane Dems and Kane GOP. The website for Democrats has quite a bit of information, including apparent party affiliation. However, for the Kane GOP website, there is very little information and most of it requires a fair amount of search. In addition, party affiliation they list for most candidates is termed “independent.” Why are they denying party affiliation?

Perhaps because Republican politicians in Congress want to remove millions of voters (primarily women) from the polls by passing the Republican political agenda called the SAVE Act. And we can credit the Republican Party for gutting abortion rights. In addition, a traditional Republican agenda has been to pass legislation to fund private schools with our public taxes. And the current Republican administration is wanting to close down the Department of Education. These are just a few small things the Republican agenda is backing. There are many more.

We have a right to know if our local politicians are at risk of supporting these agendas. We will only find this out if we know their party affiliation. The Kane County Clerk’s office has this information available to anyone who calls or visits their office. If a Kane County candidate voted in the primary election, their party affiliation is public information.

I will not be voting for any Republican.
