Walk with other Democrats from Kane and McHenry

On Saturday, July 22nd at 11:00 a.m., Founders’ Days are hosting their 59th annual parade as part of the Founders’ Days celebration. The goal of the parade is to show off the best of the best and celebrate how the Algonquin and surrounding communities are shaped by those who are a part of it — from its social organizations to its businesses; from its local leaders to its Fire, Police, and other village entities.

More details:

What to Wear: Dress for the weather, but please wear your Dundee Dems t-shirt if you have one. If you are not wearing a Candidate’s tee shirt, please wear seasonal attire in honor of the day.

Please bring candidate signs. The parade’s theme is A Circus so wear your best clown outfit.

Candy: please bring bags of wrapped hard candy. No water guns!

Line up for the parade will begin at 9 AM. Walkers usually include statewide candidates and McHenry County and Kane County candidates.

KCDW Forum on Herbicide Drift Damage @ Kane County Government Bulding A

Featured Speakers

Retired Science Teacher

Patsy Hirsch
Community Garden Advisor

The Kane County Democratic Women (KCDW) will host a forum on “The Environmental Drift!” on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kane County Government Center, Building A, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL.

The purpose of the forum is to bring the community together to create awareness of herbicides and lawn applications that are sprayed in the environment and signs that these chemicals are drifting into other areas and affecting vegetable gardens, trees, and native plants and possibly our health. The presentation will include PowerPoint slides that show the effects of herbicides, and attendees will learn about the broken regulatory system and ways community members can advocate for change. Several weeks later, a tour of the speaker’s property is available to see firsthand the effects of chemical drift on keystone oak trees that are 100 to 200 years old.  Our forum speakers include:

  • Sue Styer: Sue grew up in a family of gardeners. She is a retired science teacher who teaches local community classes on gardening and composting as a volunteer. Sue grows vegetables and native plants and does natural areas restoration.
  • Patti Hirsch: Patti grew up on a family dairy farm that also raised vegetables. Patti volunteers at a local community garden where she teaches people how to grow their own food and how to compost, while helping them to reconnect with nature through natural areas restoration activities.

The forum is free and open to the public. Questions regarding the Women & Power Speaker Series or the Kane County Democratic Women can be sent to KCDW Chair, Carolyn Bird Salazar at kcdw@kcdwomen.com

ABOUT THE KANE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN: The mission of the KCDW is to harness the political power of Democratic women to create positive social change through engagement, education, and empowerment. Meetings are open to the public and held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. They alternate between Oak Street Bar and Grill Restaurant in North Aurora and Carmina’s Mexican Restaurant in Elgin.
