On Monday at 12:15 CDT, I will host a town hall with legendary former WGN-TV Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling. Tom, recently retired from his post at WGN-TV, will join me to discuss climate change, its effect on severe weather patterns in Chicagoland and nationwide, and the path forward for concerned citizens. Kane County Democratic Women “Women & Power Speakers Series” Hosts A Panel Discussion Entitled “Justice Partners: The Impact of Women on the Justice System.”

ST. CHARLES, March 15, 2024 – The Kane County Democratic Women (KCDW) will host a forum entitled “Justice Partners: The Impact of Women on the Justice System” on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Geneva Public Library, 227 S. 7th St., Geneva, IL. The purpose of the forum is to bring the community together to learn about the unique roles and perspectives that women bring to different roles in the justice system, obstacles and challenges (past and present) on the path to those positions, and implementation of changes to remove obstacles. The panel consists of a moderator and 4  speakers.

  • Moderator: Judge Julio Valdez, Circuit Judge for the Kane County 16th Judicial District. Judge Valdez was honored in 2023 by the Judges Pro Bono Committee for giving a voice to the underrepresented in the community throughout his career as a lawyer and judge.
  • Judge Sandra Parga, Kane County Associate Judge. Judge Parga practiced civil, criminal, and family law for 23 years before becoming an associate judge in the Juvenile Justice Court. Judge Parga is bilingual and serves on the Language Access and Judicial Education Committees.
  • Dr. Alexandra Tsang, Psy.D., Chief Psychologist/Director, Kane County Diagnostic Center. Dr. Tsang has conducted numerous assessments for the courts, school districts, and police departments. She has also helped to establish programs for juveniles in detention.
  • Jamie Mosser, Kane County State’s Attorney. Jamie has served as head of the Domestic Violence Unit where she prosecuted misdemeanor and felony crimes. She also worked in Drug Rehabilitative Court. In 2020, she was elected to the state’s attorney position.
  • Amy Johnson, Undersheriff for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. Amy has had many duties at the sheriff’s office, including investigator/detective, field training officer, and juvenile officer. She is a member of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force as a crime scene investigator.

Proposed Sugar Grove Tif District Information Meeting @ Town and Country Library
May 6 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Join a conversation on Monday, May 6 at 6 PM about the pending TIF District for the I-88/Route 47 corridor proposed by Crown Community Development in Sugar Grove. This is a massive project that would include single family homes, townhouses, apartments, retail, restaurants, and an e-commerce data center among other things.

Residents Molly Reimer and Carolyn Anderson will explain what a TIF district is and what potential impacts it presents to the community.  Jera Piper, Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation Board, will talk about the environmental impacts and concerns for this development.

Kane County Democratic Women “Women & Power Speakers Series” Hosts A Panel Discussion Entitled “Immigration 101: A Path Forward in Illinois and Why It Matters”

ST. CHARLES, June 28, 2024 – The Kane County Democratic Women (KCDW) will host a forum entitled “Immigration 101: A Path Forward in Illinois and Why It Matters” on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Geneva Public Library, 227 S. 7th St., Geneva, IL. The purpose of the forum is to bring the community together to learn from experts about the laws & policies that make up our immigration system, its history, and the current challenges and opportunities. The panel consists of a moderator and 4 speakers.

  • Moderator: Dr. Sandy López, Director of the Undocumented Student Resource Center at NIU and a board member of the IL Latino Council on Higher Education.
  • Marlén Romero Garcia, Esq. Immigration attorney for the YMCA in Elgin. Marlén’s passion is assisting immigrants as they traverse our immigration system.
  • Dianha Ortega-Ehreth, Executive Director of Centro de Información. Centro provides immigration services and community resources, including food assistance.
  • Maya Piña, Director at Casa Michoacan Elgin, a bi-national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the welfare and empowerment of the Latinx community.
  • Farah Chalisa, Esq. Chicago attorney who handles employment discrimination and human rights litigation. She volunteers as the legal advisor for Empowering Women.
